Feature Home

Built in 1925, this home has been a refuge since 2006. The owner moved to Kirkwood for the charming houses, walkable streets, and easy access to nearby  neighborhoods full of great food, live music, and festivals — basically everything that justifies Atlanta traffic.

In 2024, they remodeled the kitchen to enhance both function and style. The house, however, retains its historic charm, including three original coal-burning fireplaces that she rebuilt as cozy, ventless gas fireplaces, perfect for chilly evenings.

Outside is where the magic happens. The front porch is a place of connection, where they have met many wonderful neighbors. In 2019, she added a plunge pool (because summer — nailed the timing for COVID!) and in 2021, a powder room to serve the pool, along with a gas firepit that sets evenings aglow.

Kirkwood is full of personality, and this house fits right in.

bungalow

Renovating a home is like entering into a conversation in progress — you want to
contribute without overwhelming what’s there. Repeating what has already been
done adds nothing, but doing something completely different doesn’t respect the
existing house.

Rather than mimic or erase the original 1920s bungalow’s character, the goal of the design last spring was to undo some of the previous, unsympathetic changes and create a home that feels both modern and true to its roots. Signature three-point arches and select demolition brought openness while maintaining character. Finishes and fixtures nod to the house’s era with a contemporary twist. The result is a vibrant, fully lived-in home with bright colors, open shelves, and moments that celebrate the rituals of their everyday life.

Plans to update the exterior of the house are in the works.

artist studio

Casa del Sol, built in 2006 on the footprint of an earlier home, became a haven in 2021. Although they’re still uncovering its history, the owners were drawn to the 2006 incarnation by its vibe and potential. Over the past three years, they’ve been gradually transforming it into a vibrant retreat. Architect Jeff Wren of Earth Station Architecture designed the charming Casita de la Luna, the artist’s studio on tour.

To revitalize the property, they replaced many of the fences, added the gardens, installed a recycled deck and hot tub, painted, replaced windows, insulated the attic spaces, added solar panels, and encapsulated the crawl space. Although the garden remains a work in progress, this has become their Shangri-La. The owners cherish their time here with their dogs, surrounded by wonderful neighbors and conveniently close to family and friends.

“It is an honor and privilege to share my birdhouse art creations!” says the creator. Her greatest influence and inspiration was her mother. She stressed family, education, religion, arts, and culture. These qualities to her defined a life worth living and sharing.

The artwork is dedicated to her mother and her ancestors and all who understand the beauty and power of Nature & the Cherokee Nation. From creating condos for birds to her latest expression, she says “I am not dying to see Heaven. I’ll create my own and share it with others!

modern farmhouse

This modern farmhouse with coastal flair is a reimagining of a home that’s been in the family for over 30 years.

When the owners moved to Atlanta to start their family, they saw an opportunity to transform this beloved property into something fresh,  functional, and personal. Inspired by clean lines and relaxed textures, they paired traditional elements with modern touches — from the bold black exterior to warm, light-filled interiors. Thoughtful features like dueling home offices, a pet bath, and an upstairs loft for cozy family time reflect how they live day to day. With 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, the home balances style with comfort, old roots with new beginnings.

Rebuilding here was a way to honor the past while creating their own future.
This home is a true story of reinvention on cherished ground.
